Hall of Fame ballot
Dec. 31st, 2013 10:02 amIn the spirit of the end of the year, here's the Hall of Fame ballot I'd submit if I was a member of the BBWAA. As there are well over ten players on this year's ballot that should be in the Hall of Fame, cutting it down to ten came down mostly to strategic voting decisions -- I want to see as many worthy candidates elected as possible, and I also don't want deserving first-year candidates to immediately fall off the ballot. The ballot:
Jeff Bagwell (1B: 80 WAR, 149 OPS+, RoY, MVP, 4 A-S, GG)
Craig Biggio (2B+: 65 WAR, 112 OPS+, 3060 H, 285 HBP, 7 A-S, 4 GG)
Barry Bonds (LF: 163 WAR, 182 OPS+, 762 HR, 7 MVP, 14 A-S, 8 GG)
Roger Clemens (P: 140 WAR, 143 ERA+, MVP, 7 CYA, 11 A-S)
Tom Glavine (P: 81 WAR, 118 ERA+, 2 CYA, 10 A-S)
Greg Maddux (P: 107 WAR, 132 ERA+, 4 CYA, 8 A-S, 18 GG)
Mike Mussina (P: 83 WAR, 123 ERA+, 3.58 K/BB, 5 A-S, 7 GG)
Mike Piazza (C: 59 WAR, 143 OPS+, 427 HR, 10 SS, RoY, 12 A-S)
Tim Raines (LF: 69 WAR, 123 OPS+, 808 SB, 7 A-S)
Frank Thomas (1B: 74 WAR, 156 OPS+, 521 HR, 2 MVP)
If there was room, I would immediately add:
Edgar Martinez (DH: 68 WAR, 147 OPS+, 7 A-S)
Curt Schilling (P: 80 WAR, 127 ERA+, 4.383 K/BB, 6 A-S)
Alan Trammell (SS: 70 WAR, 110 OPS+, 6 A-S, 4 GG)
Larry Walker (RF: 73 WAR, 141 OPS+, MVP, 3 AVG)
I would also consider Jeff Kent, Mark McGuire, Rafael Palmeiro, and Sammy Sosa, but their cases are too borderline for me to seriously think of including them on this year's ballot.
