Hall of Fame ballot
Dec. 31st, 2014 12:56 pmObligatory "if I had a Hall of Fame ballot" post:
J. Bagwell
C. Biggio
B. Bonds
R. Clemens
R. Johnson
P. Martinez
M. Piazza
C. Schilling
J. Smoltz
T. Raines
There are way too many qualified candidates this year so I just picked the ten that were most likely to either get elected or see a decent increase in ballot support (to hopefully get elected sooner rather than later). At this point I don't even think it's worth trying to save people from falling off the ballot because there's eventually going to have to be a committee to sort out the '90s anyway. Hopefully it will be less of a joke than the current Veterans' Committees.
My hypothetical "ten best on the ballot" vote would be different, but while I think it's kind of silly that John Smoltz is likely to get in on the first ballot over, most notably, Curt Schilling and Mike Mussina, I also think that distinguishing first-ballot HoFers is dumb.
Also this mental exercise was way more fun when it was about "should this very good player get into the Hall of Fame" and not "who can I fit onto a ten-player ballot". (Although last year's was a different kind of fun because of Deadspin and Dan Le Batard.)
