Quidditch World Cup IX
Apr. 19th, 2016 11:09 amAnother quidditch nationals in the book. And once again, I'm beyond proud to be a Skrewt. This wasn't the easiest year for the team - I don't think we had more than 13 players at any tournament this season -- and despite that, we once again made it to Day 2 of nationals for the fifth consecutive year. (And played a Southwest team for the first time ever! Shoutout to Oklahoma State, that game was fun.)
But although winning is fun, it's best when it's with a group of people you enjoy hanging out with. It wouldn't have been a Skrewts weekend without post-tournament boardgaming and I'm pretty sure I didn't help by finding a good used books/games store within walking distance of our hotel. (Sorry?) Thanks for putting up with me when I went into Crazy Hockey Fan mode at weird hours. And it was also great logging in after games and seeing all of the support from people back at home.
On a non-team level, I got to officiate some amazingly intense, competitive games this weekend. Most notably (although honestly I had a pretty crazy ref schedule and I mean ZERO disrespect to other teams/games), it was an honor and a privilege to be part of Ball State - Texas, QCB - Lone Star, and of course the QCB - Rochester Utd finals, all of which I think will go down as some of the more remarkable games in our sport's history.
It was also great seeing a lot of quidditch people who I don't get to see very often since they live on the other side of the country. I'm always sad that I never get as much time to hang out at nationals as I'd ideally like to have.
Next year in California!
